An exploration of function and dysfunction for craniosacral therapists and cranial osteopaths
The twelve Cranial Nerves appear very complex. The aim of this seminar is to dispel this view by looking at the functions that these nerves perform, rather than at how these functional modalities are combined in individual nerves. Practical biodynamic craniosacral approaches to clinical issues arising from neuropathies will form a major component of the seminar.
Topics covered will include:
- Trigeminal Nerve: sensation from the inside as well as the outside of the head; meningeal headaches, dentistry and Trigeminal facilitation
- Vagus Nerve: a huge percentage of Vagus nerve fibres are sensory, visceral sensation is our radar for safety as well as a mechanism for autonomic regulation
- Cranial Nerves IX, X, XI: co-ordinate the functions of vocalisation, chewing, sucking, swallowing and breathing, crucial to an infant's wellbeing
- Tricky places: bony and connective tissue distortions and nerve entrapment
- Higher lesions: guidelines for recognising brainstem and cerebral dyfunction
- Embryology and function of Branchial motor nerves, the triune nervous system and polyvagal theory.
Course Tutor:
Katherine graduated in osteopathy and then qualified as a Craniosacral Therapist. Her extensive craniosacral training began in 1987 and gradually led her to studying with Franklyn Sills. She is a Course-Coordinator at the Karuna Institute and Senior Tutor for the Craniosacral Therapy Educational Trust. She also teaches in Switzerland and the U.S.A.
