This two-day workshop will explore mindfulness in its embodied expression, associated brain dynamics and the effects on physical, emotional and psychological health. Participants will learn Craniosacral skills based on recent developments within neuroscience and the practice of mindfulness. An accessible presentation of the effects of mindfulness on the brain will be followed by experiential exercises aimed at actualising this understanding in Craniosacral practice. New verbal and hands-on skills will be taught that promote awareness in the practitioner and client, support mindfulness of the body, encourage a pro-active and resilient approach to our core health, help resolve symptoms and promote clients’ responses to treatment. We will learn the neural dynamics of three main mind modes: mindless emoting, conceptualisation/doing and mindfulness/being. We will identify and explore through table work how they shape our body-mind relationship, cognitive function and emotional expression.

Areas explored will include:

  • Brain dynamics of three main mind modes
  • Three tides and three mind rhythms
  • Mind-based practitioner fulcrums
  • Mind-based inertial fulcrums
  • Identifying mind wandering for both practitioner and client
  • Elements of neuroplasticity: the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life
  • The neuroscience of positive emotions and compassion
  • Empathy versus compassion
  • Body wholeness; promoting shifts in clients’ physiology and awareness
  • Embodied mindfulness and the inherent blueprint for health.

Course Tutors:

Candice Marro B.C.S.T.
- a Craniosacral Therapist and psychotherapist with extensive experience of running practices in London and France. She has supervised students in training, assisted on a number of post-graduate courses and was director of CTET’s teaching clinic. She is also a director of a French consultancy and training company promoting mind training for enterprises, business education and executive coaching. These programmes combine psychology, mindfulness practice and neuroscience to help companies manage change and transition processes, and to optimize resources at an individual as well as an organizational level. Furthermore, she is founder and head of ‘P.E.A.C.E.’ mindfulness programmes in schools. She enjoys on-going study and practising multi-disciplinary applications of Craniosacral Therapy, mindfulness, science and psychology.

Dr. Elena Antonova Ph.D
- a neuroscientist and lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. Her main research interest is the neuroscience of mindfulness, particularly structural and functional brain changes in long-term mindfulness practitioners from the Buddhist traditions of Dzogchen and Mahamudra. She has been actively involved with the Mind and Life Institute, an organization that aims to facilitate an inter-disciplinary research into the effects of contemplative practices. Dr. Antonova is regularly invited as a keynote speaker at UK and international conferences, symposia and public events, providing her with an extensive experience of presenting the neuroscience of mindfulness to both scientists and non-scientists alike. Her research has attracted media interest, with two reports featured on the BBC Breakfast Show.
