This seminar will help practitioners to deepen into their experience of the midline as a therapeutic organising principle and of the vertebral column and its interconnections. We will explore biodynamic treatment skills for working with different aspects of midline function, learn advanced skills to work with the spine and enhance our application of universal principles of healing. An emphasis will be placed on the re-establishment of the original intention of cells and tissues via an appreciation of the Breath of Life and embryological organising forces. There will be ample time for table work, reflection and meditation.

Topics covered will include:

• The notochord and midline organising principles
• The significance of the quantum midline
• The stillness of the midline
• The midline in everything
• Working with midline function in long bones - "power points"
• Dural tube dynamics and the core link
• Embryological development of the spine
• Vertebral dynamics and embryological sclerotomes
• Working with embryological triads
• Vertebral dynamics and encouraging states of balance
• Principles for working with individual vertebrae
• Vertebral dynamics and the state of balance
• The embryological fluid fields of the spine
• Facilitated segments - working with somato-visceral and viscero-somatic patterns
• The umbilicus, relational midline and birth ignition
• Finding balance between heaven and earth
• The 'middle way' as a therapeutic principle.

Course tutor:

Michael Kern is a Craniosacral Therapist, Osteopath and Naturopath with a practice in London. He has been teaching Craniosacral Therapy since 1987 and is a leading international exponent of the biodynamic approach, currently running courses in the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Russia and Sweden. He is co-founder of the Craniosacral Therapy Educational Trust, a senior tutor for the College of Osteopaths, the International Cranial Association, the Centre for Professional Development in Osteopathy and the University of Westminster in London. He is also author of the highly acclaimed book 'Wisdom In The Body - The Craniosacral Approach To Essential Health', now available in ten languages.

Teaching will be in English and translated into Italian. This workshop will include 32 hours of classroom attendance.

SENSORY AWARENESS - THE FIVE SENSES AND BEYOND

AT KIENTALERHOF, SWITZERLAND - A LOVELY CENTRE IN STUNNING SCENERY IN THE SWISS ALPS SERVING DELICIOUS MACROBIOTIC FOOD!

During this seminar we will explore the five senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touch), their associated cranial nerves, and other less commonly described realms of sensory awareness. Other senses come into play as we enter more subtle realms of experience, such as imagination, inspiration, instinct and intuition, and these will also be explored in the context of craniosacral practice. This evolving picture of sensory experience shows that the way we become aware of our world is a lot more complex than the mechanical models of the past. The seminar provides an opportunity to experience a sensory feast, by opening ourselves to ways in which we can help clients develop to their full potential. There will be ample time for table work, reflection and meditation.

Topics covered will include:

• the eyes, ears, nose and tongue and their associated cranial nerves
• common clinical conditions involving these senses and their cranial nerves
• the newly-discovered “cranial nerve 0” or “Terminal nerve”
• the twelve senses as outlined by Rudolph Steiner
• the twelve pre-natal senses as described by David Chamberlain
• using our instinctual gut sense
• sensing with the heart
• using our whole physiology as barometers and instigators of change
• developing the subtle senses.

Teaching will be in English and translated into German. This workshop will include 32 hours of classroom attendance.

The pioneer of this approach, Dr William Sutherland, realised that the 'Breath of Life' is our deepest resource for healing which operates with the utmost intelligence and precision. In this workshop practitioners will learn how to appreciate and support the supremacy of the 'Breath of Life' as a therapeutic medium, and how to deepen into the heart of the healing process. An emphasis will be placed on working with the deeper rhythms of primary respiratory motion and helping to access 'states of balance'.

SEMINAR TWO:

THE STORY OF THE BODY - THE INHERENT TREATMENT PLAN AND AUGMENTATION SKILLS

During this seminar the practitioner will learn how to listen for the intelligent treatment priorities of the Primary Respiratory System, and initiate subtle palpatory and perceptual 'conversations' with tissues, fluids and potencies. These augmentation skills may be used for both diagnosis and treatment. The seminar will cover clinical skills necessary to work cooperatively with the healing and creative intentions of the Breath of Life. An emphasis is placed on relating to the deeper forces that organise our functioning.

OUT INTO THE WORLD - PRE-NATAL AND BIRTH DYNAMICS IN BABIES, CHILDREN AND ADULTS

Our early patterning creates the basis for how we face experiences throughout life. During this seminar we will look at pre-natal and birth dynamics and develop practical skills to safely and effectively relate to early traumatic patterning in babies, children and adults. SPARK IN THE MOTOR - THE 'IGNITION' PROCESS AT CONCEPTION, BIRTH AND THROUGHOUT LIFE

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER/JANUARY 2013/14 - DATE TBC

This seminar will focus on skills to help the physiological incarnation and manifestation of the vital potencies of the Breath of Life. We will consider the vital role played by fluids (particularly cerebrospinal fluid) in disseminating these potencies throughout our physiology. We will also work with the central nervous system and key areas of the brain to facilitate the expression of essential health. All practical clinical approaches are derived from a craniosacral biodynamic approach to work in the field.

SEMINAR FIVE:

FINDING WHOLENESS WITH MICHAEL KERN

In this seminar the embryology, motility and mobility of body viscera will be introduced, and the practitioner will learn to orient to the heart and heart ignition. The embryological development of the face will be explored as well as therapeutic approaches for working with the fluid fields of the face. Work is geared to re-establish the original intention of cells and tissues via an appreciation of the Breath of Life, its midline dynamics and embryological organising forces. The seminar will help to integrate the work covered in previous seminars of this course.

Katherine Ukleja D.O., R.C.S.T., B.C.S.T. - graduated in osteopathy and then qualified as a Craniosacral Therapist. Her extensive craniosacral training began in 1987 and she is now a Course Coordinator for the Craniosacral Therapy Educational Trust and Karuna Institute. Katherine has many years experience of teaching foundation trainings, as well as advanced courses for qualified Craniosacral Therapists and Cranial Osteopaths. She has become an internationally respected figure in the craniosacral profession, regularly giving presentations at conferences and running courses in Switzerland, Russia, India, Malaysia and the USA. Katherine is also an artist and paints textiles for interiors and designs for the theatre. She lives in Devon with her husband, daughter and a scruffy dog.
