- a phenomenological approach to human function

This seminar will attempt to reveal the spiritual essence of the human body (and of the human being in general). Using Goethean phenomenology participants will develop a more dynamic perception of the human body as a living organism. The body’s shapes and functions will be seen as gestures of soul and body and therefore understandable from the so-called participatory stance. From a polarity view of anatomy and physiology, a threefold understanding of the human body will be developed that reveals the body as a manifestation of both spirit and body. This seminar is an effort to overcome Cartesian anatomy and physiology terrorised by the notions of locality, causality and determination. This seminar deeply supports practices such as Craniosacral Therapy, Osteopathy and Polarity Therapy, and is open to all therapists.

Topics covered will include:

• new perspectives regarding a spiritual human biology, polarity morphology and threefold nature of the human being
• body systems as psychosomatic functions of the human organism
• how kinesiology and embryology meet at the level of movement, motion and form
• the lemniscate principle in all body axes and directions
• delimiting ectoderm, connecting endoderm and mediating ‘meso’
• the relationship between form (structure) and process (movement)
• the fundamental polarity between body and mind (spirit)
• from polarity to ‘threefoldness’, including ‘sperm cellularity’ and ‘egg cellularity’ as basic principles and rhythms (breath) of life
• the craniocaudal and proximodistal gradients in the body
• object body and subject body, and minor and major health (Nietzsche)

Course Tutor:

Jaap van der Wal M.D., Ph.D. is a medical doctor and associate professor of Anatomy and Embryology at the University of Maastricht, Holland. After his medical education in 1973 he specialised in functional anatomy. He then taught Philosophy of Science and Medical Anthropology, and developed a passion for human embryology. He discovered that science and religion, matter and spirit, macrocosm and microcosm, creation and evolution all meet each other in the phenomenal process of becoming human. He teaches at institutes of Craniosacral Therapy, Osteopathy and Polarity Therapy around the world.

Times:

From 7pm - 9.30pm on Friday 5th September, 9.30am - 6pm on Saturday 6th September and 9.30am - 5pm on Sunday 7th September.

Cost:

£230 if deposit received before July 24th 2008, or £265 if received after this date. Bookings confirmed by sending non-refundable deposit of £100. The remainder of the fee is due two weeks prior to the start of the course (ie. by August 22nd 2008).
